Description: Stromata: Stromata pulvinate, or effused; 10-50 mm long; 3-30 mm broad; 1-1.5 mm thick; perithecia not visible, or inconspicuous; ostioles finely papillate; stromatal surface more or less smooth (but unevenly undulate in height, and with irregular, short, shallow grooves in surface, especially near ostioles); grey, purplish-grey, or buff, or dark brown (brown vinaceous), or blackish; granules immediately below stromatal surface dark brown to blackish; KOH-extractable pigments lacking; tissue below perithecia inconspicuous (whitish when immature).
Perithecia: Perithecia more or less globose; 0.4-0.8 mm diam.
Asci: Stipe short with spores filling about two-thirds of ascus; amyloid ring higher than broad.
Ascospores: Ascospores 12-15 µm long; 5-6.5 µm wide; brown; 0-septate; in side view inequilateral, flattened on one side, curved; in face view fusoid, or elliptic; ends narrowly rounded. Germ slit straight, spore-length; on flattened side of spore. Perispore indehiscent in 10% KOH.
