Notes: Notes from Rod Tulloss and Ben Wolfe, July 2007
Material labelled as Amanita nauseosa was compared from New Zealand, Australia, Hawai'i, and the Gulf Coast region of the USA (Florida to Texas). Morphological examination of the New Zealand, Australian, and Hawai'ian specimens suggests they are not A. nauseosa, but perhaps match A. manicata, originally described from Sri Lanka by David Pegler. Genetically the Pacific collections all match, and are distinct from most American A. nauseosa collections. However, one sample from Texas and one from Florida also match the Pacific collections genetically, and the relationship between these collections needs resolving with additional collections and genes.
