Article: Johnston, P.R. (1989). Some tomenticolous Crocicreas species from New Zealand. Memoirs of the New York Botanical Garden 49: 108-111. Description: Apothecia developing amongst tomentum of leaf on abaxial surface. Apothecia 0.1-0.3 mm
diam., sessile, cup-shaped, receptacle smooth, hyaline to pale-brown, margin of receptacle
white. Ectal excipulum up to 40 µm wide at sides of receptacle, comprising hyaline, 2-3 µm
diam., long-celled hyphae immersed in hyaline gel. Small crystals scattered along outside of
excipulum near upper edge of receptacle. Medullary excipulum about 5 µm wide, of 2-3
layers of hyaline to pale brown, thin-walled, nongelatinous, long-celled hyphae. Asci 55-75 x
7-8.5 µm, cylindric, tapering slightly to rounded apex, wall slightly thickened at apex, apical
pore amyloid, 8-spored. Ascospores 16-21 x 2.5-3 µm, apex broadly rounded, tapering
markedly to base, hyaline, 1-septate. Paraphyses 1.5-3 µm diam., undifferentiated or slightly
swollen at apex, not extending beyond asci.
