Article: Massee, G.E. (1899) [1898]. The fungus flora of New Zealand. Transactions and Proceedings of the New Zealand Institute 31: 282–349 Wellington:. Description: Pileus rather fleshy, campanulate, then expanding, white, surface broken up into warts or
concentrically arranged, more or less overlapping, thick scales, white, 2.5-3.5 cm. high,4-6
cm. broad when expanded ; gills very distant from the stem, rather crowded and narrow,
white with a tinge of pink; spores hyaline, broadly elliptical, ends very obtuse, smooth, 14-15
x .10 µ; stem 7-10 cm. high, slightly 'thickened at the base, pallid, ring ample, superior. Habitat: In meadows, &c. Distribution: Bay of Islands, Auckland, New Zealand. Notes: A very beautiful endemic species. Examination of Berkeley's type specimen, supplemented by
others accompanied by notes and sketches, has enabled me to complete the description.
Belongs to the procerus group, and is in all probability edible.
Article: Horak, E. (1971). A contribution towards the revision of the Agaricales (Fungi) from New Zealand. New Zealand Journal of Botany 9(3): 403-462 (http://www.rsnz.org/publish/abstracts.php). Notes: Fig. 9 Despite the poor state of the material (SINCLAIR, Auckland 26.IV.1854)
microscopical characters and collection notes justify placing this species in
Macrolepiota. The spores are typical of this genus: thick-walled, slightly
dextrinoid, with distinct germ-pore, 13-16 X 9-10.5 µ. We suppose that this
species was accidentally introduced into New Zealand.
