Article: Horak, E. (1978) [1977]. Fungi Agaricini Novaezelandiae. VI. Inocybe (Fr.) Fr. and Astrosporina Schroeter. New Zealand Journal of Botany 15(4): 713–747 (http://www.rsnz.org/publish/abstracts.php). Description: Pileus 15-30 mm diam., hemispherical when
young, convex to campanulate, becoming expanded; beige to cinnamon or avellanous;
dry, disc smooth, rimose-fibrillose to splitting towards estriate margin, veil
remnants absent. Lamellae adnexed, ventricose, crowded; concolorous with pileus,
albofimbriate. Stipe 20-40 x 3-4 mm, cylindrical, slightly attenuated upwards,
at base with marginate bulb; concolorous with pileus or paler; dry, pruinose
all over, cortina absent, solid, single and cespitose. Context pale brown. Odour
and taste unknown.
Spores 7.5-10 x 7-8 µm, ovoid, with numerous
hemispherical to convex knobs, brown. Basidia 25-40 x 7-8 µm, 4-spored. Cheilo-
and pleurocystidia 55-80 x 10-18 µm, elongate-fusoid to lageniform, metuloid,
hyaline, crystals present. Caulocystidia similar to cheilocystidia but larger,
40-90 x 10-20 µm. Cuticle a cutis of cylindrical hyphae (5-15 µm diam.), membranes
encrusted with brownish pigment. Clamp connections present. Habitat: On soil under Leptospermum (L.
scoparium, L. ericoides). New Zealand. Notes: The microscopical characters of this species
remind one of A. asterospora s.str. Cleland (1934) (WAITE, 12692) but
the spores of the Australian taxon have less pronounced knobs and the cheilo-and
pleurocystidia are considerably smaller.
