15-45 mm diam., papillate or convex with pronounced umbo, aged carpophores occasionally
depressed at the centre, beige to dark brown, glabrous when young but becoming
slightly wrinkled, strongly striate, hygrophanous, dry. Lamellae free, densely
crowded (l 3-7), pink, gill edge concolorous and not fimbriate. Stipe 25-50
x 2 mm, cylindrical, often curved, central, light brownish and densely covered
by white, silky fibrils, dry, fistulose, fragile, occasionally twisted. Context
watery, brownish. Taste and odor farinaceous.
Spores
10-11 x 6.5-7.5 µm, 5-sided. Basidia 26-44 x 11-13 µm, 4-spored. Cystidia none.
Cuticle a cutis or trichoderm of short, cylindrical hyphae (7-20 µm diam.),
membrane thin-walled, not gelatinized, with plasmatic, brown pigment. Clamp
connections absent. Habitat: On
rotten wood of Nothofagus fusca. New Zealand. Notes: species was observed several times in the beech forests of New Zealand, on rotten
wood of Nothofagus fusca only. See also under E. niveum Stev.
