Article: Dingley, J.M. (1969). Records of plant diseases in New Zealand. New Zealand Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, Bulletin 192: 298 p. Wellington:. Notes: It is suggested by Brook (1957) that this fungus had been previously recorded by Taylor
and Brien (1943) as Neofabraea malicorticis (Cordley) Jackson; he showed that together
with Pezicula malicorticis it is responsible for ripe spot on apple fruits; it overwinters on
trees as a dieback on small stubs left after pruning. Padfield and Cooper (1965) showed that
storing fruit at temperatures a little above freezing held up the development of the fungus
for 120-180 days. In some seasons, especially when fruit has been picked late in the season,
it is an important pathogen.
