Mesophellia

Notes

Truffle-like fungus, differing from Malajczukia in anatomical features of the fruiting body. The nut-like central part of the fruiting body is sterile, though to be an adaptation to attarct the animal vectors of this funguas, while the spores are confined to a narrow zone near the outside edge. Exotic in NZ, mycorrhizal with Eucalyptus.
