Description: Stromata: Stromata pulvinate; 0.5-1.5 mm thick; perithecia inconspicuous; ostioles lower than or more or less equal to stromatal surface; stromatal surface red-brown, or dark brown (brown vinaceous); granules immediately below stromatal surface yellow brown, or dark brown to blackish; KOH-extractable pigments yellowish-green (pale); tissue below perithecia conspicuous, essentially homogeneous, dark; 0.5-1 mm thick.
Perithecia: Perithecia more or less globose; 0.3 mm diam.
Asci: Asci 80-130 µm long; 5.5-9 µm wide; stipe short with spores filling about two-thirds of ascus; amyloid ring broader than high.
Ascospores: Ascospores 10.5-12 µm long; 5-6 µm wide; brown; 0-septate; in side view inequilateral, flattened on one side, not curved; in face view elliptic; ends broadly rounded (often slightly broader at one end than the other). Germ slit straight, spore-length; on concave, curved side of spore. Perispore dehiscent in 10% KOH; smooth or with indistinct transverse thickenings.
