Genera of RUST FUNGI

Description: Plant pathogens, causing leaf spotting diseases, and less commonly galls, the pustulate fruiting bodies packed with powdery, rusty-coloured, dry spores.
Only those genera containing species with available images of disease symptoms are treated here. A complete list of genera can be generated from the NZFungi website, searching on 'Uredinales' under the Names link.
Genera are identified on the basis of microscopic characters of the spores and spore-producing structure. Most species are highly host-specialised, so that the most effective way to identify rusts to the species level is to start from the host plant. Lists of fungi recorded from a particular host can be generated from the NZFungi website, using the "Associated organism" search catergory under either the Literature of Collection links.
