Genera of BOLETE

Description: Mushroom-like fruiting body, fleshy, with pores rather than gills. The genera are difficult to distinguish without a microscope, but the numbers of species are small. Some are specialised towards a particular hots tree, others have distinctive individual features, such as Xerocomus nothofagi, one of the species where the flesh stains blue with damage. Favolaschia has also been included here because it has pores rather than gills, although it is phylogenetically a 'mushroom'.
